#7 Halliburton in New Zealand – Hall of Shame Company Cementing Up Our Wells

Want to get a job at Halliburton, go right ahead, the company operates a thriving business out of New Plymouth, this is how they introduce their job vacancies… “Since 1919, Halliburton has been opening Worlds of Opportunity around the globe. We’re one of the world’s largest and most safety-conscious providers of oil field services. Come in and explore your future! The sun in your face. The earth in your hands. Great money in your pocket”

But what they fail to add is that the company has been accused of:

  • Corruption
  • Cronyism
  • Kickbacks
  • Overcharging
  • Bribing Nigeria
  • Dealings with Rogue States
  • Cooking the Books
  • Plundering the Pensions
  • Excessive Lobbying Activity
  • Tax Haven Operations
  • An Asbestos Debacle
  • The Fracking Controversy

And more….

There are not many companies that get a single website dedicated to their suspect activity.

And of course, Halliburton are also also heavily implicated as a subcontractor in the disastrous Deepwater Horizon BP Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico (left).  Litigation continues….

“The evidence that Halliburton knew its cement showed instability before the blowout indicates multiple companies will be liable for damages, said Mike Stag, a New Orleans environmental lawyer suing BP, Halliburton and Transocean. “This is one of those gotcha moments,” Stag said. “It’s the kind of evidence you hope will show that someone absolutely knew there was a significant problem.” The evidence may also mean criminal fines for Halliburton if the U.S. Justice Department reaches the same conclusions, said David Uhlmann, former head of the department’s environmental crimes division” [ref]

Suffice to say, the type of work Halliburton are doing in New Zealand is the same as they were doing for the Deepwater Horizon Project (Cement services for the oilfield industry. Wireline logging and perforating. Oilwell control and production services. Specialised oilfield pumping).  FreeNRG4NZ will be following the outcome of the BP litigation in terms of Haliburtons guilt and in terms of the proposed deep water drilling work that is planned for New Zealand – do we really want these guys cementing up our wells?

Halliburton are also heavily involved with our geothermal well drilling, same thing, cementing up wells etc etc.  This is also an activity that is not without blow risks as this incident is Chile shows.

From time to time you will see Haliburton workers wandering around in New Zealand, proudly wearing the USA flag on their shoulder, and in Iraq they are followed along by Marines and Infantry, Soldiers wearing the very same flag on the very same shoulder.  We have one thing to say to you Halliburton Workers…  @#%$ Off.  Anyone who works for a company like Halliburton has sold out.
